Tour of Sri Lanka – July 2011

Join our travel group as we explore Sri Lanka, the Pearl of the Indian Ocean. Famous for its beautiful jungles and beaches, its austere Buddhist temples and monuments to ancient kings, the island has had many names in the past: Serendib (from which the word serendipity is derived), Ceilão, Lankadweepa, Pa-Outchow, Taprobane, and Ceylon.

Your tour will be led by two Deaf Sri Lankans and Adam Stone, a former volunteer teacher in Sri Lanka. The tour will be conducted in both American Sign Language and Sri Lankan Sign Language.

Highlights

Trip highlights will include most–not all–of the following (exact details TBD):

  • Visit Sri Lanka’s famous Buddhist temples, statues, and ruins in Kandy, Polonnaruwa, and Dambulla
  • Ascend the ancient rock fortress of Sigirya, also known as “the 8th Wonder of the World”
  • Learn about Sri Lankan Sign Language and meet deaf people working in various professions
