I agree with Debbie up above. I see a book brewing and would love to see it in print. I have read nearly 3/4 of your blogs and persued the pictures at length. This is excellent stuff. I encourage you to keep up the freshness and the perspective. Carry this out and publish! Looking good!

Adam, just finished reading your 2 most recent blog entries and will find time today to read many more. Note with interest your telling of your time spent here in MI and your desciption of other teachers with whom who work. Thx for bringing me out of the dark ages. My first experience reading and responding to a blog! (I'm copying a few for my mother to read, too.)

Love, Julie

Hey, Maizey makes the Big-Time! She'll be so excited when she reads this! (well at least your cousins will be!)

As I think I told you, sorry about the shoe shopping--I can only say I'm glad it was your Mom and not me that took you--I hate shopping!! And in theme with your report--how easy for me to say that. When it is so easy for me to do it! We are spoiled by what we have here, but what I'm struck by in reading your piece is that ,as you say, it is for better or worse. The consumer society, as opposed to Sri Lanka's, is so devoted to the superficial.

Your observing things that we take for granted was an excellent way of helping us feel your experience of becoming so engrossed in a "foreign" land that you truly are assimilated by your surroundings and become accommodated in them. Of course, human beings are adaptable creatures (a trait that has allowed us to survive in many climates (both natural and political)). And it happens without really trying. I mean here you are a generation Xer American all your life (from the open (clogged) convertible strewn roads of California and with Motor City DNA, even) and you actually took note that there were so many "modern" -- and just so many--cars on the road!

Well, we loved having you here, away from what clearly has become your " home" away from home. We are happy that you are happy to be back with your students, curry comfortable.

Oh yeah, thanks again for traveling half way around the world to join in your little cuzza's
simcha.
Love,

Uncle Jim and the Parkwood bunch.

Good to get to read you again -I enjoy every bit of your stories. And that line about Segolene Royal was priceless. I'll tell it once: *She*must*not*win*the*election*. Nicolas Sarkozy, it is!

Adam,
I definitely see a book brewing here, some catchy title with humor and truth on the inside. Looking forward to reading it.
I'd like to add, in addition to your wise sister, that perhaps you were also jet-lagged, tired, re-adjusting to Western culture, emotion overload. Crying is a way of cleansing all of that out! Good stuff, really.
Happy trails,
Debbie
